Guest Post: How To Be Happier in 4 Easy Steps

HAPPINESS IS AS EASY AS 1,2,3,4

As moms, you're always putting your child or children first before yourself.  Don't forget about your partner, too.  Barbara Gibson-Paul, child and family therapist, shares a few tips on happiness.  If you're happy, the tone of the household and your daily functions at home and/or at work will be more positive.

  1. Wake up 10 minutes earlier than everyone in your family.  Write down your goals for the day, enjoy your cup of tea/coffee and take a longer shower.
  2. Pick a charity or do volunteer work that gives you something to talk about with your husband and friends.  This models the importance of community to your children.
  3. Laughter, laughter and more laughter.  When something stressful happens ask yourself "will I remember this in 1 year?"  Most of the time you won't remember.
  4. Acknowledge those people around you, smile, give hugs, be grateful and review your day.  Keeping things simple can lead to less stress and chaos, and increase creativity and joy.
